Name: Lacie Rose Rourke
Age: 14
Family: Lyle Rourke (grandfather), Rose Rourke-Johnson (mother, deceased), Alan Johnson (father, deceased), Edith Rourke (grandmother, deceased)
Alignment: Neutral/Citizen
Appearance: Small for her age, not too thin but not entirely husky, blonde hair, pale skin, bright blue eyes. She looks young for a fourrteen year old; she is small for her age because she was born premature.
Personality:
A little spitfire in training. Smart, perceptive, and cunning. She knows how to behave like a sheltered little lady in front of her overprotective grandfather, but she is truthfully street smart and is incredibly capable of conning people to help the street kids survive. Lacie knows she looks a lot younger than she is. Because of this, everyone always underestimates her, and she knows how to use that to her advantage. But that doesn't mean she isn't kind or caring. She loves her grandfather, she just doesn't love how suffocating his love for her can be.
History: Lacie Rose Rourke was born on a cold winter night. Little Lacie was placed in an oven in a box, the oven on its lowest temperature, to keep warm while the medical staff informed Lyle Rourke of the situation. Incredibly small and premature, they didn’t have high hopes for Lacie’s survival. Rourke, mourning the loss of his daughter, didn’t give up on his grandchild. So he adopted her and raised her, hiring nannies that would care for her round the clock during her first year of life to make sure she stayed warm and healthy.
Lacie’s first memory is the face of her grandfather as he stared down at her in her crib, talking to her. The memory is fuzzy and she mostly doesn’t know what he’s saying, but she remembers him swearing to always protect her.
And Rourke did protect her—albeit a bit too much. So afraid of everything that could harm her, he kept her close at his side and incredibly sheltered, hiring tutors to give her an education and often leaving her to her books while he was at work.
Lacie, with her mother’s fiery personality, didn’t take well to this. She often had tantrums when not allowed outside by her caretakers—she wanted to smell the grass and the flowers! She wanted to hear the outside world and not have to see it from her windows! She didn’t like that she could only go outside when Grandpa escorted her to lunch for her birthday and other holidays. Rourke was intent on protecting her from everything, and it drover her bonkers.
When Lacie was eleven years old, she got into an argument with her nanny one evening and was sent to bed without supper just for wanting to go into the garden. That was the last straw. Taking what little knowledge she’d learned of the world from her books, Lacie snuck out of the house and went exploring. She found herself in a dirty and unfamiliar part of town—much like the illustrations she’d seen of the streets that poor children frequented. That was where she got an idea. After some exploring and avoiding a few individuals that gave her weird vibes, Lacie came across a girl around her size, so she approached her and asked for her clothes. The girl was confused until Lacie specified that she wanted to trade clothes. The poor girl, seeing Lacie’s pretty dress and shoes, took her up in the offer without hesitation. So the girls switched clothes in an abandoned house and the little girl skipped away feeling pretty, leaving Lacie dressed as a common ragamuffin. She played with the other children, got dirty, and had the time of her life.
Finally knowing what it was like to be around other people her age, Lacie began sneaking out frequently. That is how she met Peter Jones, a street kid who helped her out of a bad situation she had gotten herself into. The two became quick friends and have been causing mischief together on the streets ever since.
Peter knows her as Lacie Rose, and is under the impression that she's as much of a street kid as he is.
Her grandfather is completely unaware that she sneaks out to hang with the street kids, and she would prefer to keep it that way.
