If one thing was for certain, then it was the fact that it was too nice of a Sunday to be inside. The bright sun reminded the redhead a lot of home. Being greeted by the sunrise was one thing that Millie missed about the countryside. It was quite a rarity for the baby blue sky to be cloudless due to the smog coming from the smokestacks in the industrial district. The weather plus the fact that she didn't have to work made it a perfect day to take a stroll around Gatsberry. The redhead found a nifty little café at the edge of the street. It didn't really look that crowded, so she ran as fast as she could in her heels towards the coffee shop. She didn't remember the last time she had coffee, but she remembered that it wasn't good coffee. Like her part of town, it was bland and it had no flavor. She wasn't exactly sure of what to get, so she sat down at one of the outside tables. Dress:

Charlotte smiled at the barista as she was handed her coffee and a small muffin. She had been dropped of and was to be picked up from the café in three hours giving her time to relax before heading home. Usually she would be going to Miss De Vil's but the older woman was busy today and told Charlotte to take a break so she would be well rested for her since she'd been working at the Moonlight for the last week and she just needed the rest. As she stepped out of the café, planning to sit outside with just her coffee and muffin, she spotted the sweet red head she had met at the opening night of Moonlight. "Millie!" She exclaimed excitedly. She walked over and set her coffee down. "How have you been dear. I haven't gotten a chance to see you since we were both at the Moonlight lounge." She laughed. "I hoped you enjoyed the rest of your night." She pointed to the chair next to the red head. "May I join you?" She asked sweetly before flagging down one of the waiters outside to get something for Millie. dress

A familiar ebony-haired woman exited the café with a coffee and muffin in her hands. She gasped at the sound of the woman's voice. Charlotte Marcello! It's been a week since they had last met, but it felt like ages ago. Millie could barely speak as her name was being called. For only a split second, she took off her hat and straightened out some of her hair. Blushing, she put her cloche cap back on and smiled slightly.
"Miss Marcello... it has been a while, hasn't it?" She whispered and brushed some dust off of her lap and pale pink dress. "About that night, it was kinda hard to enjoy it after what happened, don't ya think?" The redhead blushed harder than before, embarrassed with her answer. Millie went over to the other chair and pulled it out so that her acquaintance would have somewhere to sit. Also, considering that Charlotte was practically a princess, a plebeian like her wouldn't dare to be associated with the royalty of Gatsberry. The young girl scratched her head and returned to her seat. She took a deep breath, getting a nice whiff of the salty air with a hint of the coffee. "So, how have you been?"

Charlotte smiled as she sat down when Millie pulled out her chair for her. Charlotte's smile dimed slightly as she thought about Aria falling. "Yes after my sister fell down those stairs I almost had a panic attack. The only reason I was even able to make myself get back on stage to finish the night out was she wanted me to sing her favorite song." She explained. "When we got home that night I put her to bed like when she was little and she had this huge bruise on her back. Oh it was awful. Well after she fell asleep I went to my father and we argued for almost an hour until he relented and agreed to put carpet down on those stairs. I mean Aria could have broken her neck." Charlotte said the last part waving on of her hands showing how upset this had made her.
She took a small sip of her coffee and broke off a small bit of her muffin and popped it in her mouth smiling at the young woman. "But other then that my week has gone well. I've worked out a schedule with my father and Miss De Vil about my singing at the club and my dance and song training. I'll mostly be singing at the clubs weekends and special events so I can still go out a bit like now," Charlotte gestured around them. "and so I can still train."
She took another sip of her coffee before smiling at Millie. "Now last time we spoke I didn't get to hear what you do for a living here in Gatsberry so I would love to know more about what you do." She took another nibble of her muffin as the waiter came to take Millie's order. "Oh what ever she wants is on me dear." Charlotte told him. He nodded and looked to Millie to give her order.

The redhead twitched at hearing Charlotte's tale, remembering the sound of the porcelain girl's fall. The imagery of her neck being broken didn't help either. Back home, she witnessed a farm hand fall off the barn roof while he was re-shingling it. That was one moment in which she wished that she could take back more than anything. Seeing someone you know and love potentially kill themselves over an accident must have been terrible. She left early from the lounge shortly after it happened since she had to get Holli home.
Gladly, the week had recovered for the both of them. It was glad that her dad allowed her out some more. They could enjoy moments like these more often. To be frank, who wouldn't want to spend more time with the Charlotte Marcello? "Now last time we spoke I didn't get to hear what you do for a living here in Gatsberry so I would love to know more about what you do." About me, huh? Why would she want to know more about me? I'm no one special... Millie sighed and rested her hands on the table. "I work at the textile mill at the edge of Gatsberry. Nothing special..." She looked at the waiter, then glanced back at Charlotte. "I'm sorry, but I don't know what to order. What do you recommend?"

Charlotte smiled at the red head. She obviously didn't think as highly of herself as she should. The way she kept saying she wasn't special or interesting and Charlotte definitely disagreed there was a story with this young woman and she could tell.
This young pretty woman left the home she had known all her life, that most would not leave for comforts sake and moved across the country to begin living in a big city. The girl came from Kansas and was now in New Jersey of course there was more to her then she was saying. But Charlotte learned not to push. She felt that she should treat others as she would want to. And there are certain things she wants to keep secret or private in her life and as long as it doesn't harm her or others she lets these people keep their secrets. Like with Aria liking Dante, and that other man she had danced with. Millie had much more story then she was letting on.
"Well I wouldn't call a textile mill boring. I'm sure your always working with wonderfully beautiful fabrics and such. My Dance and singing instructor also has a clothing line she likes to work on. She makes a number of my sisters and my own clothes."
When Millie said she didn't know what to order Charlotte giggled. "She'll have a black coffee but bring some cream and sugar on the side and some warm biscuits and butter." Charlotte smiled at the woman. "I'm not sure if you like sweets or not so I didn't want to suggest a specific muffin they have lots of flavors. Mine is a cinnamon blueberry muffin if you'd like a taste." Charlotte broke off a piece of her muffin and offered it to Millie with a sweet smile.

Millie shook her head in response to Charlotte's assumption. "Nah... I've been in the basement helping sort cotton and get some extra impurities from the bolls. I've recently been promoted to spinning. I'm pretty good at that." She smiled weakly and stared off into the unknown. How lovely it would be to work with beautiful fabrics instead of being behind the scenes. Perhaps one day she could rise above her menial tasks and possibly help some big-name designer sew some intricate patterns on a fancy dress that some girl her age would receive for her birthday. However, this was just a fantasy. She needed to do the small stuff first before handling silks and chiffon.
"She'll have a black coffee but bring some cream and sugar on the side and some warm biscuits and butter." Charlotte put words into her mouth as easily as she put part of the muffin into hers. It was nice of her to order and pay for her food, but her orders made her feel more like an outsider. Thankfully, she added some creams and sugars to make the coffee less bland. When the waiter left, she offered a piece of her muffin to her. "I'm not sure if you like sweets or not so I didn't want to suggest a specific muffin they have lots of flavors. Mine is a cinnamon blueberry muffin if you'd like a taste." The redhead nodded and accepted the small piece of the muffin, plopping it into her mouth.
The mix of cinnamon and blueberry was an odd one, but it was still quite tasty. She smiled and held one of Miss Marcello's hands with her own. "Thank you so much, Charlotte."

Charlotte smiled at the sweet young woman she really was much more interesting then she thought she was. Charlotte placed her free hand over Millie's after she thanked her. "Millie, sweetie. You don't have to thank me for anything. I can tell you are far more interesting then even you know."
Charlotte took another sip of her coffee and another nibbled of her muffin when an idea struck her. "You know Millie I could suggest you to Ms. De Vil for a job on her clothing line, but she can be very very very harsh. If she says something isn't completely terrible that's about as close as you'll get to a complement. She's the same way with me when I sing or dance. If she says I was adequate but that doesn't deserver praise because it was expected of me then I know I must have been wonderful. I'm telling you this because if you want me to I will talk to her but you need to be read for her harshness if you do." Charlotte offered. Really she didn't know if Millie had the best personality for working with Cruella but leaving her home, finding a job and a place to live in a strange city, that took a certain kind of strength and Charlotte wouldn't let this pass the girl by if it was something she wanted.

Millie turned her head, seeing the waiter put her biscuits and coffee on the table. "Thank you sir," she thanked and handed him some money from her worn porte-monnaie, "and may I please have a cinnamon blueberry muffin as well?" The redhead added, remembering the softness and taste of the pastry. He nodded and left the table. She poured some cream into her cup and stirred.
"You know Millie I could suggest you to Ms. De Vil for a job on her clothing line, but she can be very very very harsh. If she says something isn't completely terrible that's about as close as you'll get to a compliment." The young girl chuckled at Charlotte's description of Ms. De Vil's service. It wasn't any different from what her foreman would say to others at the mill. She lost count of all of the times she was called an idiot, and she probably didn't want to experience more of it. She was no stranger to verbal abuse. I'm telling you this because if you want me to I will talk to her but you need to be ready for her harshness if you do. "I... as much as I would love to, I can't. I'm good with the mill. I'm happy where I am. I've never been that keen on designing fashion. In fact, I don't know what I'm that keen on."

Charlotte grinned as Millie spoke. "Well it's good that you know that Fashion isn't where you want to be later. You need to find the thing that makes you happy. Like with me and singing or my sister and her flower shop. We were lucky and found the thing that makes us happy early in life. Sometimes though you just need a little while longer doing things you don't love till you find what makes your heart sing. I'm sure you'll find it soon. There's a lot in this town something will spark your passion I'm sure." Charlotte nodded feeling very sure.
The waiter brought the muffin and nodded that they were done for the moment and left. "So Millie what kind of work did you do when you were in Kansas. Was their anything you like when you were in school, or that you enjoyed at home? Maybe we can think of something to help lead you to your bliss." Charlotte offered wanting the young red head to find something that could make her happy.

She thanked the waiter and took a large bite out of the cinnamon blueberry muffin. Large crumbs fell from her chin and onto her lap. The country bumpkin giggled as she brushed them off of her skirt. "There ab-so-lute-ly are a lot of opportunities here in Gatsberry. More than anyone could imagine..." Millie blushed slightly as she cut open a biscuit and put half of a pat of butter onto it. This was definitely much nicer than what she had for a breakfast back home....
Back home... Charlotte's question went through her mind again. So, Millie, what kind of work did you do when you were in Kansas? Was their anything you like when you were in school, or that you enjoyed at home? Maybe we can think of something to help lead you to your bliss... Why was she so interested in her? There was absolutely nothing to grasp about her. If she did tell her, Charlotte would definitely be depressed to hear all about her. "I mainly did work around the house and on my farm. My father was an invalid and I didn't have any other brothers, so I took care of almost everything back home."

Charlotte grinned as the girl took a big bit of her muffin they were so fluffy that the crumbs scattered all over making Charlotte giggle at the younger woman.
When Millie started talking about Kansas and her fathers issues Charlottes eyes widened. That was so sad. "Oh Millie dear I'm so sorry you had to go through that." She took one of the girls hands holding it in both of her own. "That must have been so hard taking care of your father and your home like that." Charlotte gave her a slightly ashamed look. "I remember you being uncomfortable when talking about Kansas I can't believe I forgot."
She held the girls hand running her fingers over the top soothingly when an idea struck her. Suddenly a big smile came over her face. "I know what we should do." She grinned widely. "After we finish our food and coffee we should go back to my house and have a kind of spa day. I have these wonderful bath salts. Oh you will feel so relaxed after using them. You can wear one of my dressing gowns and we can do our nails and make up oh it will be so fun. Please? OH You don't have to go back to work do you? I wouldn't want you to get in trouble."
Charlotte looked at the red head hopefully she had so few female friends. Many that could have become friends were jealous of her while others only wanted to be around her when they were looking for a specific kind of fun. And while Millie was definitely the type of girl Charlotte might be interested in she did want a friend to.

She looked away as the girl in front of her held her hands in her, as if she was her mother. By the look on her face, Millicent could tell that her friend was definitely ashamed of her. Charlotte wouldn't have known what it was like at all, having a loving family and all. Being the sole breadwinner for a family consisting of an polio-bound father and a cruel sluggard of a sister wasn't exactly bliss.
"After we finish our food and coffee we should go back to my house and have a kind of spa day. I have these wonderful bath salts. Oh you will feel so relaxed after using them. You can wear one of my dressing gowns and we can do our nails and make up oh it will be so fun. Please?" Charlotte offered to the redhead. How could she refuse it? She wanted to spend a lot more time with her new friend, and the only way to do so is accept her invitation. "Of course, Charlotte! I'd love to! I have off today because it's Sunday. No need to worry."

Charlotte grinned and clapped happily. "Oh yay!" she said excitedly. She then took a bite of her own muffin and took a sip of her coffee.
"HMMMM." She moaned at the taste. "Make sure to try a bite of the muffin and then a sip off your coffee. The contrast of sweet and bitter is really yummy." She said smiling.

The redhead nodded and finally decided to take a sip of her coffee, taking her friend's advice. Holding the warm cream-soaked coffee under her tongue, she took another bite of her muffin. Charlotte was right. The contrast was quite strong and it had some sort of kick. Not as much as the French 45, though.
Some time later, Millie finished her muffin and coffee, left a tip, and took her friend's hand.
