Yesterday had been quite a long day for the young country girl. From the moment she stepped off the train from Salina, she was thrust into a strange, scary, but exciting new world of city living. Anna had warned her back home that this town would be extremely different, but she mustn't have taken her warning so seriously. Change was good now, and boy, did she need some change?!
She had nearly been ran over by a few jaunty-looking jalopies. Well-dressed socialites had gawked at her plenty of times. Millie had overheard them talking about plays and politics and the possibilities of "what in God's good name a country bumpkin was doing in this city". However, she didn't mind, for she was used to people talking about her behind her back. On the bright side, one of those socialites actually helped her find a place to stay at the Hotel Aquila.
"Wake up, dearie. It's nearly the middle of the afternoon." A few knocks on her door woke the redhead from her deep sleep. Ms. Harris's voice was calm, yet stern as it usually was. Although it was like honey, there was a hint of vinegar hidden inside those She knew not to protest with her
Sleeping in... what a luxury this was for her! Before she could relish her first official positive of city living that she had experienced, something had hit her. I must have forgotten to unpack! she shot straight up and got out of the small queen-sized bed. Millie flopped her two suitcases onto there and sighed.
"Perhaps unpacking could wait until tonight..." she muttered to herself. However, she had a point. She needed to explore more of this vast city and, perhaps, get herself a job to make Ms. Harris stop nagging at her! "Alright, I'll go!" the young girl unzipped one of her suitcases and pulled out a light green cotton dress to go out in...

The shower wasn't as warm as she expected it to be, but it was still much warmer than the lukewarm to cold bathes she had back on the farm. She put the light dress on and ran out of the hotel, stopping by the edge of the curb. Millie strolled down a few blocks before she spotted a blonde woman at the end of street in front of a sign that read "The Spread Eagle". Perhaps this is for taxidermy? she thought to herself as she went closer and closer towards her.
